We are Building a
Transformational

Community

Building Belonging

OVERVIEW

Mason Together is building a transformational place where care, possibility, and connection come alive. This partnership shows how congregations, neighbors, and mission-driven developers can reimagine sacred spaces to meet urgent public needs.

For more than 125 years, Mason United Methodist Church has been a cornerstone of Tacoma’s North End. The Church has always been about people—neighbors supporting neighbors, faith inspiring action, and community creating belonging. The needs of today call for building on that foundation in new, impactful ways.

With Mercy Housing Northwest as a trusted partner, we bring expertise and compassion to make this vision real.

We’re not just building living spaces. We’re creating the conditions for people to thrive and connect, while shaping lasting change together.

Apartments will be affordable for folks who are essential workers in our schools, shops, and healthcare offices, but can’t afford to live nearby. A mix of apartments will support individuals and families, including some with three or more bedrooms.

Mercy Housing Northwest is an established presence in Tacoma, operating nearly 500 affordable apartments and ensuring residents thrive in program-enriched housing.

SERVICES

Homes are part of a broader system: childcare, food access, spiritual space, and services that strengthen the whole community. We hope to build a welcoming, intergenerational community.

We plan to have a variety of partners involved in this project and are looking for community collaborations that can bring necessary and desired services to the neighborhood.

Our final vision is still taking shape. We are focused on:

  • Enlivening connections to worship, in Proctor and our wider community

  • Dignified and secure access to food

  • Safe and healthy environments for children

COMMUNITY SPACES

Building gracious and vibrant affordable homes with our partner, Mercy Housing Northwest, is our central focus.

Mason Together is still exploring what’s possible within this block of Proctor: what are the spaces that allow neighbors to gather, reflect, and grow - together.

OUR MISSION

  • Homes affordable to families and individuals who work in our communities—in schools, retail, and healthcare—the people essential to our community, yet unable to afford to live nearby.

  • Homes where they are needed most. In a city with growing demand, our project will add homes in a high-opportunity area designated for density.

  • Homes as part of a broader ecosystem that can serve the neighborhood and our community.
